The central idea of our IB unit focuses on traits. They are inherited in a predictable manner and help inform our decisions. A trait is defined as a feature or characteristic that is inherited by one or both parents. The different combinations of traits make us all unique. We made a graph of a few traits represented in our room.
Inherited traits are not to be confused with learned behaviors. Students were given a variety of cards, and they sorted them into categories. They found that half of the cards were inherited traits, while the others were skills that had to be learned.
Each group made posters using their cards and brainstormed more examples.
