Heart Rates

Central Idea:  The human body is an intricate system that is constantly changing.

The heart, the main organ within the circulatory system, pumps blood throughout the entire body.  We did an experiment to see how much our heart rate changes while doing different exercises.  On the 100th day of school, we did 100 seconds of different activities and felt our pulses for a minute.  Later, students graphed their results on their laptops.

  • Why do we breathe heavier when we exercise?
  • Why can’t I do a sit-up?
  • Why does it sting when I do sit-ups?
  • Why do I feel tired?
  • Why does my heart rate change?

We are looking forward to exploring these questions later this unit!
