Third graders took soil samples from different parts of Discovery School and later analyzed them to find similarities and differences. They packed our Wonder Wall full of questions as they spent time collecting and sorting through different kinds of soil.
Sania’s temporary catch- a tadpole! We counted 10 deer that walked past us! As they were working with their soil, several students came across earthworms in their samples and posted questions on our Wonder Wall about them. We brainstormed a plan to create an earthworm habitat in our classroom and thought about what information we still needed before we got started (such as, what do earthworms eat anyways?). They voted on the best plan and headed out to collect some earthworms! One group found some very small eggs (we think???) Creating an Earthworm HabitatDuring our Daily 5 time (literacy block), these students decided to use their writing time to write about earthworms. Some even wrote creative songs! More to come!
