Analyzing Old Maps

Central Idea: History can be analyzed using primary sources.

Transdisciplinary Theme: Where We Are in Place and Time

We have been working on our research skills of formulating questions, observing, and interpreting data as we look at different kinds of primary sources. Old maps were our focus!   Maps can tell us about the people who made them, the times in which they lived, and what they knew and didn’t know. Groups of students chose one of the several maps to analyze. Looking at primary sources requires patience, focus, and curiousity! Students were surprised at how much they were able to notice when they took the time to look at the details.  They recorded some of the their thoughts about the map they chose. They had a lot of great interesting conversations!

Though they had several maps to choose from, they gravitated toward 2 in particular. For the recordings below, they chose just a few of their thoughts to share. Some of the groups will be added soon!
