Genius Hour

During Genius Hour, students have been working through the inquiry cycle with their project.  They each wrote on an index card what they decided to learn about and how they are going to share their learning.  As they move through the inquiry cycle each week, they move their card to where they are in the process. Ask your child where they are!We had our first few students make it to the “Share” step!  Isla and Emerie created posters about what they learned about cheetahs and volcanos.  Za’Myia made a volcano explode!  We can’t wait to see what’s next!

Our first inquiry unit ended last week. We wrapped up our unit the same we started it.  Students were once again challenged to organize their own game without help from adults and reflected how their social skills have improved.  They were proud how much smoother everything went!  In the classroom, different students took charge organizing the teams, deciding/voting which game they wanted to play, and successfully refereeing the game.  Later they individually reflected on how open-minded they were, how they resolved conflict, and how they cooperated with their classmates.
